Here at Open Skies Management (OSM) all of our qualifications are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management (CMI) which is a deliberate decision that we took when starting out. The other main provider of management and leadership qualifications in the UK is the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Both organisations offer respected qualifications that can enhance your career prospects, but they differ in their approach, focus, and offerings.
Established in 1947, CMI is the UK's chartered professional body for management and leadership. As a chartered institute, CMI has the authority to award chartered status to qualified professionals, making it unique in the management field. CMI emphasises professional recognition and the development of management as a discipline.
Founded in 2001 through the merger of the Institute of Management and the Institute of Leadership, ILM is part of the City & Guilds Group. The organisation focuses on developing practical leadership and management skills across all levels of an organisation, from emerging leaders to senior executives.
Both organisations offer qualifications from Level 2, suitable for emerging managers and those just starting out in their careers through to Level 7 and 8 for senior executives. As already stated, CMI also allows managers to take on Chartered Status as well.
We offer qualifications at Level 3, Level 5 and Level 7 here at OSM - offering something for everyone.
CMI holds a significant advantage in professional recognition over ILM. As a chartered institute, CMI can award:
- Chartered Manager (CMgr) status
- Chartered Fellow (FCMI) designation
- Professional recognition that's internationally respected
Additionally, it is felt that qualifications from CMI open more doors further down the line, giving learners the opportunity to expand on their strategic thinking with a focus on research and providing excellent networking opportunities with other members.
